Korea to Sell Anti-HIV Material Technology to US

Korean researchers will sell a candidate material for a drug to combat AIDS to a U.S. pharmaceutical company.

The Korea Research Institute of Chemical Technology developed the material, which is effective in curbing the multiplication of the human immunodeficiency virus without causing considerable side effects.

Current anti-HIV medicine has negative effects on the nervous system, like sleeplessness and dizziness.

The institute will earn nine-million U.S. dollars from the transfer of the technology. In addition, it will earn an estimated 29 million U.S. dollars a year for 15 years starting in 2013 if the technology goes commercial.
