http://english.kbs.co.kr/DATA/20080807/2008080703_big.jpg

U.S. President George W. Bush says his country will continue to insist that North Korea respect the dignity and human rights of the North Korean people.

Mr. Bush made the comment in an address he plans to deliver in Thailand Thursday, the text of which was released in advance by the White House.

The U.S. president also said the ultimate goal of the five nations negotiating with North Korea at the six party-nuclear talks is to rid the Korean Peninsula from oppression and nuclear weapons.

Bush added that Pyongyang should commit to the verification of its nuclear declaration and address outstanding concerns about its nuclear proliferation and uranium enrichment programs

30% of Women Deliver by Caesarean

More than 30 percent of Korean women deliver babies by Caesarean section.

According to the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service, some 37 percent of pregnant women delivered their babies via C-section in the first half of last year, up from 36 percent in 2006.

The state-run agency attributes the increase in C-sections to a rise in the number of mothers older than 35 and the growing rate of women carrying more than one baby at a time.

The rates of Caesarean sections by hospital vary from nine percent to 60 percent.

C-sections are conducted when the obstetrician decides that natural delivery poses a life-threatening danger to the mother or infant. The World Health Organization recommends the procedure be conducted on only five to 15 percent of pregnant women.

Three Koreans Killed in Phillippines

That’s according to this Newsis report, itself relying on a statement from local police on the 27th. The three — a grandmother, her daughter, and 10-year old granddaughter — were living in western Manila when, in the early hours of the 27th, the criminals broke in and stabbed them to death. Police were alerted by a grandson sleeping in another room. Mother and daughter were found naked and early suspicion is that they were sexually assaulted.
