Kim Gyeong-mun Interview

Kim Gyeong-mun, manager of the South Korean national baseball team, shared some very quotable thoughts with the media after the game.

“I dreamed about being interviewed naked”

Manager Kim Gyeong-mun, hero of the gold medal in baseball, the final event at the Olympics, claims that he had a lucky dream prior to the Games.

“It’s actually embarassing, but in this dream I was naked in front of a bunch of people, doing an interview. Some other people interpreted it as a good dream so then I started to think so too.”

“I got a call from President Lee Myung-bak but I couldn’t think at all of what to say, so I just said ‘I’m sorry’ and ‘thank you’.” Asked his thoughts on winning the gold he said, “I’m overwhelmed. I can’t believe it. I never thought I would win the gold.”

Asked what his goal had been prior to the tournament manager Kim said, “I was just thinking that I wanted to have a good effect on kids who are having a tough time of it. Game after game, we kept on winning, so the players came together and the veterans pulled the younger guys through. The veterans were the support for everyone else to lean on. So the younger ones were able to play well.”

On pulling Ryu Hyeon-jin in the bottom of the ninth inning he said, “in a tough situation it was hard also to put in Yun Seok-min or Jeong Dae-hyeon. And Oh Seung-hwan couldn’t give 100% of his body. So I wanted Hyeon-jin until the end. He was throwing fine until then. But with one, two men on, or the bases loaded, I thought without a double play we can’t win. So I had Dae-hyeon get ready and at the crucial moment he got it done.”

Manager Kim said, “I haven’t forgotten the first game and I can never forget the final victory. To be on top, I’m just overwhelmed. I’m thankful to all the citizens who supported us.”
