The government is considering a massive reorganization of both the foreign affairs and defense departments following the government’s belated action to a U.S. decision to change its labeling of the islets.

An official at the presidential office said Tuesday that those who are found to have engaged in neglect of duty regarding the recent issue would inevitably have to assume responsibility.

The official said the government will take appropriate measures in the event the South Korean Embassy in Washington is found to have mishandled the situation.

Meanwhile, the Foreign Ministry’s task force team on the Dokdo islets held its first meeting on Monday. The task force will seek to take systematic, comprehensive measures to correct any mislabeling of the islets in the East Sea in various international documents by utilizing its network of overseas missions.

The ministry is also planning to set up a research center on Dokdo and organize a group that seeks to safeguard the islets.
