Japan Lawmakers Want NK Sanctions Intact

A majority of Japanese lawmakers believe that its sanctions on North Korea should remain in place until the issue of Japanese abductees is resolved.
According to a survey conducted by families of abducted Japanese to the North, nearly 80 percent of surveyed Japanese legislators said sanctions on Pyongyang should be removed only after reviewing the results of a proposed reinvestigation into the abduction of Japanese citizens by the communist state.
Eighty-two percent of the surveyed said the government should seek additional sanctions if the North refuses to accept a reinvestigation of the abduction issue.
The recent survey was completed by 245 legislators of the bicameral Diet.
