Seoul to Announce Stance on Tourist Shooting at ARF

The main conference of the annual ASEAN Regional Forum will open in Singapore on Thursday.
Foreign ministers of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, the two Koreas, the United States, China, Russia and Japan will hold discussions on the North Korean nuclear issue and restoration efforts in the cyclone-ravaged Myanmar.
A government official in Seoul said South Korea’s delegation to the meeting will publically announce its position on the recent tourist shooting at North Korea’s Mount Geumgang during the main conference.
The official said Foreign Minister Yu Myung-hwan met with his North Korean counterpart Pak Ui-chun on Wednesday and conveyed Seoul’s stance on the tourist shooting incident that occurred two weeks ago.
Yu also unveiled Seoul’s stance on the issue during talks with his Chinese and U.S. counterparts.
According to the government official, U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice suggested ways of supporting Seoul’s efforts to send a team to the North’s mountain resort for investigation. China’s Foreign Minister Yang Jiech
