The Ministry of Environment says it will launch a public campaign next month to reduce the nation’s greenhouse gas emissions.

It said the campaign dubbed “Green Start” plans to reduce greenhouse gas produced in everyday life in order to realize green growth and the creation of a low-carbon society.

To that end, the ministry will set up a “Green Start Network” group comprised of members from central, provincial and city governments, as well as industrial, religious and civic organizations. The group will establish and begin implementing a detailed plan of action by September.

Households, merchants and other non-industrial sectors account for 45 percent of total greenhouse gas emissions in South Korea. Therefore, realizing a low-carbon lifestyle is considered a key to successfully reducing harmful gas emissions and countering climate change.
