The government will monitor the ecological system around the Dokdo islets in the East Sea regularly as part of its efforts to protect the flora and fauna there.

The Ministry of Environment said Thursday that it will conduct ecological monitoring of the islets three to four times a year in an effort to secure the area’s biodiversity.

In addition, the ministry is conducting basic research to revive the sea lion that is believed to have been extinct since the 1970s.

The ministry also plans to publish 85-thousand copies of English-language photo books on Dokdo’s ecosystem.
