Teachers’ Groups to Conduct Special Classes on Dokdo
Korea’s two teachers’ organizations have decided to give special lectures on the history of Dokdo the next semester, following Japan’s renewed territorial claim over the islets.
The Korean Federation of Teachers’ Associations said Wednesday it will conduct classes on Dokdo in the fall semester, and will post an educational cartoon on the Dokdo issue on its Internet homepage so that teachers can use them for class material.
In addition, it plans to send letters to around 300 teachers associations around the world about the issue, while seeking to cooperate with Japanese teachers’ groups.
The Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union has begun to make reference materials for Dokdo classes in the fall semester.
An association of education superintendents across Korea has also issued a statement denouncing Japan for its territial claim over Dokdo and vowing to strengthen education of the issue.
