Ex-Samsung Chief Gets Suspended Sentence

A Seoul court has sentenced former Samsung Group chairman Lee Kun-hee to three years in prison for tax evasion, but has suspended his sentence for five years.
The Seoul Central District Court also fined him 110 billion won, or about 109 million U.S. dollars. But the tycoon was cleared of charges of illegally transferring his wealth to his son, Jae-yong.
Lee was indicted in April on charges of evading taxes on trillions of won hidden in borrowed accounts. The prosecution last week requested a seven-year prison sentence and 350 billion won in fines against 66-year-old Lee.
Lee resigned from the top post of Samsung Group after being indicted in April by a special prosecutor.
