US Beef Inspections Begin at Gyeonggi Warehouses

The government has resumed U.S. beef inspections, beginning with shipments held in storage facilities in Gyeonggi Province since last fall.
The National Veterinary Research and Quarantine Service says it sent one inspection team each to nine warehouses in Yongin, Gwangju and Icheon.
Officials will sample three percent of the stored shipments, open packaging and examine the wrapping and products. They’ll check to see if temperatures were maintained while the beef was in freezing for the past eight to nine months, and will use X-rays to confirm that the meat contains no foreign materials.
The frozen batches pending inspection contain only boneless meat in line with the previous import rule. If any beef-on-the bone is found, the box in question will be thrown out or sent back to the United States.
